Dear Future Mid-Year Review

Writer's picture: RicRic

We are thrilled to share our progress with you!

2024 has been a year of hard work and consistency as we settle into our programs and embark on year four of our journey.

Thank you for being with us on this incredible ride and for taking a few minutes to catch up on your investment. Here we go!

Q1- 2024 Successful Deliveries in Peru and Uganda

We wrapped up our first and busiest quarter of the year with great success, marked by the completion of school material deliveries to remote communities in Peru and Uganda. In total, we distributed 13,793 material units in Peru and 16,246 units in Uganda. And yes, we counted every single item!

Doubling Our Impact

Among these deliveries, we distributed 6,327 notebooks of various kinds, including squared ruled, lined, triple line, large squares for kindergarten, exercise books, graph books, art books, and more! In total, we supported 895 children between schools in Peru and multiple schools and orphanages in the Eastern, Central, and Western regions of Uganda. This achievement more than doubles last year's numbers, where we supported 373 children.

A New Partnership: Casa del Buen Trato Hovde Receives School Supplies

In 2024, we began supporting a remarkable organization in Huanuco, Peru, called Casa del Buen Trato Hovde. This home provides housing and support to 24 resilient girls who have been rescued and placed there by court orders. These girls have endured significant trauma at the hands of those who should have been their protectors, and live in separation from their closest family members.

Disaster Relief: Ensuring Education After a Flood in Peru

Our kindergarten school in Yanayacu, Huanuco, was devastated by a flood when the nearby river overflowed due to intense rains. Shortly after our giveaway, the teacher instructed the children to keep their materials in the classroom due to their young age. Unfortunately, all their notebooks, pencils, crayons, and other supplies were washed away or ruined in the flood. Given the school's small size, we were able to respond immediately and provide the children with a second set of materials. However, this experience highlighted the reality that such events may happen again, and we should be prepared to respond with emergency funds.

Exciting Updates in Our Penpal Program

We recently delivered a complete set of postcards to Peru and Uganda. Additionally, Dear Future has expanded its penpal program to two new locations: Casa Hovde in Peru and Squash Dreamers in Jordan. Squash Dreamers is a US nonprofit that supports economically and geographically displaced children in Jordan, teaching them squash and providing educational support, including English lessons. This program helps boost the confidence and self-esteem of refugee children from countries such as Iraq, Palestine, Syria, and South Sudan, addressing significant educational inequalities in their host countries.

First Hygienic Pad Giveaway of the Year

In February, we distributed the first batch of hygienic pads for the year to 300 girls in Uganda. Additionally, we left over 200 packs for girls who had not yet registered. We also launched a fundraising campaign to purchase our first batch of 300 reusable hygienic pads. This initiative aimed to ensure our girls have the freedom to not miss another day of school, a goal we successfully achieved in the following months.

And all that was Quarter 1 of 2024!!

Q2- 2024 - Sustainability is the goal!

April - Ray 5 Farm Provides Rain Boots for 207 Students

In April, Our Sponsor Ray 5 Farm generously funded the purchase and transportation of rain boots for 207 students at Trey Jr. Primary. This unique donation was made to support the children during the rainy season, as they often face flooded roads filled with unknown dangers due to the effects of climate change. Thanks to Ray 5 Farm, these students are now better equipped to navigate these challenging conditions safely.

May - Transition Begins with Our First Batch of Reusable Pads for Her Full Attendance

Our focus for the rest of the year is on supporting girls in the Mayuge District of eastern Uganda. Two years ago, we began our efforts to reduce absenteeism due to menstruation with disposable hygienic pads. This month of May, however, marks a significant milestone with the arrival of our first batch of reusable pads, which will provide sustained support for at least two years for each girl-given proper education.

In collaboration with our partner, the local nonprofit Empathy Children Initiative, we are committed to providing girls with the education and materials they need to care for themselves appropriately and stay in school. With this advancement, we are renaming our program: "Her Full Attendance" to reflect our ongoing dedication to her education.

And more...

Thank you so much for your continued support; we are working hard to honor your investment by helping make sure that children globally are getting the education they deserve.
